Plot Summary:A human skeleton is discovered north of Tokyo. There is a shogi piece next to it. Two detectives are assigned to the case and the first place they look is with the maker of game piece. In the meantime, a superlative shogi player recalls his terrible childhood and angry father and how an encounter lead to his becoming a shogi player. The two detectives drive to visit the shogi player. They wonder whether they have established a connection between the crime and the player.
柚月裕子の同名小説をドラマ化。過酷な運命を背負い棋士の頂点を目指した上条桂介(千葉雄大)の半生を描く。刑事の石破(大友康平)と佐野(蓮佛美沙子)が、埼玉の山中から発見された遺体と共に埋められていた名駒の所有者を調べる。時を同じくして、桂介はごみに出された将棋雑誌を拾った幼少期を思い出す。ほか、渋川清彦らが出演。
