Plot Summary:As a result of the Chinese government's one-child policy, an increasing number of schools are being forced to shut down. Harsh truths emerge from the stories of daily life in a mountain school in central Zheijang Province where student numbers continue to dwindle, and from the struggles of villagers living amid depopulation.
1960年代，在中国某些地区，每个村都有一幢小学教学楼，每个乡镇中心至少有一所中学。然而，中国使行计划生育后，出生率骤减，城镇的经济高速发展驱使农民纷纷离开农村、进城打工——这使得学校相继关闭。《离开》记录了浙江中部山区一所学校所经历的衰亡。在两年内，学生从31人降至2人——学生离开了山区，教育也离开了山区。
