Plot Summary:Matthew is 10 years old when he experiences for the first time the death of a loved person. The Mentor is the story of a child struggling to keep the image of his mentor amidst the gossip following the teacher's death.
Matthew, 12, learns the death of his mentor. He feels lost; death is new to him. He witnesses a series of empty adults' conversations about his deceased teacher, and realizes that he is losing his real memories of him. To find the answers he is seeking, he decides to look at death in the eye.
