Plot Summary:Losing his mother to WW2, 13-year-old Tom visits his aunt but finds her missing. Not knowing what to do, he is befriended by Krücke, a one-legged war veteran, and finds shelter with a Jewish woman who sells alcohol to the Allied soldiers.
